Alison Berger’s The Sky Above Chandelier is a solar system rendered in light, a four- or five-pendant constellation, each featuring abstract stars that are drawn by hand on a layer of glass while it is molten, and repeated for each layer until each sphere reaches the desired size. They are then buffed by hand before set into the handcrafted bronze fixturing in a precise method that creates a beautiful balance. One’s experience of this design will shift with time and perspective, just as the celestial patterns evolve from day to evening, unlit to lit. This chandelier, and all of Berger’s designs, are blown in her Los Angeles atelier, annealed for several days, then finished by hand. No two are exactly alike.
